Puccini's tale of the wild west kicks off 2008-2009 season
La Fanciulla del West ("Girl of the Golden West"), set in 19th century California, is unquestionably Puccini's Western masterpiece. Differing stylistically from Puccini's other operas such as La Bohème and Madame Butterfly, La Fanciulla is chock-full of American influence: fanfares, gunshots, and snares.
Another horror film in a cornfield
Combining sweeping cornfields with blood and mystery, The Descendant cleverly combines culture with suspense in a way that is both disturbing and thought-provoking. Although not very well put together, it engages the audience as it slowly reveals a shocking family secret set within Quebec's own little-known dark history.
Ian Kelly. Speak Your Mind. Montreal native Ian Kelly's second album, Speak Your Mind, is a warm blend of folk, rock, and pop that will keep your finger on the repeat button. The first single and standout track is "Wiser Man," a catchy song that employs a range of instruments from acoustic guitar to violin.
Dangerous Liaisons aims to shock, but see-through costumes can only do so much
The cast of Dangerous Liaisons performed on Saturday night to a packed house at the Leanor and Alvin Segal Theatre. The play, written by Christopher Hampton, is an adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's classic 18th century novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
