While other cafeterias, such as the formerly Engineering Undergraduate Society-run Good Bytes Café, have experienced price increases since becoming Chartwells operations, Mersereau said that prices will not change at the McGill Bookstore café. The food menu might change slightly, she said, but "everything should stay more or less the same" and employees will not be transferred to other Chartwells cafeterias on campus.

The café will continue to serve Starbucks coffee.

"Any time a business changes hands, people tend to get a little freaked out," Mersereau said, "especially with something like coffee, where people order the same thing every day. But we are doing our best to make a smooth transition so we don't disrupt people's daily routines."

But Kutz is concerned about more than finding a good cup of joe.

"Chartwells is not interested in creating a relationship with the community on campus," she said. "It's interested in profits and creating a name and a presence."
