After giving the five remaining executives two weeks to prove that they could handle the presidential responsibilities, Students' Society councillors voted to hold a by-election as soon as a new fall election period could be organized. Some councillors, such as Arts representative John Bowden, expressed that their respective faculties had mandated them to support a by-election.

Negotiations between MUNACA and University make little progress

Negotiations have stalled between the University and the McGill University Non-Academic Certified Association, a union representing most non-academic staff. At a September 9 meeting, the University proposed measures that MUNACA members say question their productivity and seek to increase working hours and days without providing monetary compensation.

MISN holds elections after five of six

Elections were held yesterday for all executive positions of the McGill International Student Network, one week after five of the six MISN executives resigned. Vice-President Events Peter Abou-Jaoudé was the only executive who did not resign. He said he disapproved of the unexpected manner in which the other executives departed.

Mixing Pop and politics

"It's not all about the music' was the sentiment at Pop Montreal's "Mixing Pop and Politics" conference, held Friday and Saturday at Sala Rossa. With films, lectures, and question periods, the conference addressed issues such as how musicians today are getting their messages heard, the importance of music in struggles of human rights, and the mainstream media's aversion to politically-charged music.

Corrections

In "High faculty turnover nearing" (September 23), the president of the Computer Science Undergraduate Society was wrongly paraphrased with the emotion of worry, due to an editing error. Only five of the MISN executives resigned, not all six as reported in the "MISN executives resign" (September 23).
