All work and no play make editors long for the holidays!
See, we're regular folks, just like you. Asked and answered, the Tribune editorial board shares their innermost thoughts in response to the question, What do you want to accomplish this holiday season?
Adam Myers, Sports Editor: "I want to spend some time with my good buddies - we're all going away together."
Andrew Segal, Managing Editor: "I want to have a good time with my family on our trip to New York, and, I guess, do well on my GREs (I know that last part doesn't have anything to do with the holidays, but I really want it to happen all the same)."
Ben Lemieux, A&E Editor: "When I was younger, I used to use the holiday time off to construct an intricate web of traps around the house to capture Santa... well, try. This year, I'm going to fucking get him. He's grown slow and unalert in his old age..."
Dave Blye, Sports Editor: "I'm going to watch football and generally take it easy."
Genevieve Friesen, Design Editor: "The holiday season, for me, is the time that I get to see my family-and also sleep in until school starts again."
Genevieve Jenkins, Features Editor: "Our cross country team has arranged to buy gifts for the children in a large, underprivileged family, and we raised about $215 for a gift basket with food, etc. so they can have a nice dinner. Also, my best friend is in the US army, stationed in Iraq, and a lot of people in her platoon don't have friends and family sending them letters and gifts; I've asked my team to write holiday letters for the soldiers."
James Gotowiec, News Editor: "I want to go home and earn some money before Christmas, catch up on all the sleep that 8:30 classes have made me miss and spend time with my girlfriend to make up for being in Montreal for the past four months."
Jennifer Jett, Managing Editor: "I want to build or rebuild ties with extended family... but also decompress from the stress of this semester and start looking for a job."
Lara Bekhazi, Production Manager: "I want to recover from my most draining semester yet... and get all my summer work, winter courses and job applications in order! Plus tanning and shopping, of course."
Lise Treutler, Features Editor: "I'm afraid of Toronto. I usually hole up at my mum's for a few days during the holiday season and leave only to visit my father in Mississauga. But this year, I want to get up the courage to face the city and actually see some old friends!"
Liz Allemang, Editor-in-Chief: "I would like to get to and from Toronto by train without hours of unexpected delays. This break will be one of joy if I don't cross paths with a single derailment or rerouting through Ottawa. Every year, VIA. Every single year." Lukas Bergmark, Photo Editor: "This holiday, I would like to read four novels, gain ten pounds and get reacquainted with my dusty old PlayStation and play some Jedi Power Battles multiplayer with my brother. I'm also looking forward to cutting down a Christmas tree with my family and decorating it. I generously plan to allow my parents to fly me home so that they may have the wonderful gift of having me home for the holidays."
Marco Avolio, Online Editor: "Three things: finish my honours essay, edit a short film and normalize sleeping patterns. And yes, I will spend some quality time with video games."
Niall Mackay Roberts, News Editor: "I'd like to get all my Christmas shopping done in under six hours. The mall is a horrible place and the less time I'm there, the less money I'll put myself further into debt. Speaking of which, I'd like for my employer back home to give me a raise."
Robert Church, News Editor: "I want to go relax in TORONTO with my family, get some skiing in and think up new and exciting ways to offend more groups at McGill. Next up: white people and how ridiculously pale they are."
Spenser Sproul, Design Editor: "I'd like to take care of my grandparents while I'm at home, since I only see them twice a year. I'd also like to catch up with old friends and my siblings. I'd like to be a more helpful part of the Christmas decorating process."
Tiffany Choy, Design Editor: "Umm... this holiday season I want to set regular hours of sleep! No, seriously-regular hours of sleep would be good..."
Traci Johnson, Copy Editor: "I am going to revel in my time at home, let my grandparents spoil me rotten and get in qualtiy time with the cousins."
Vladimir Eremin, Photo Editor: "Drinking, snowboarding and more drinking... and then maybe even more drinking. You know: Christmas, New Year's, Russian Christmas and Russian New Year's! I hope that will keep me busy for a week or two."
